COLOR WAS AT THE CAPITOL TO REMIND COLORADANS THAT WE WILL CONTINUE TO PROTECT OUR ACCESS TO REPRODUCTIVE HEALTHCARE

DENVER, CO – On Monday, Politico shared a leaked draft opinion in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization case which appears to overturn Roe v. Wade y Planned Parenthood v. Casey. Let us be clear – this is a leaked draft opinion, not a final order of the Court, and COLOR stands with our communities in outrage and disappointment.

Everyone must know that abortion is still legal in the United States. But with this potential decision, this court is yet again showing it has no problem harming pregnant people across the country – particularly Black, Indigenous, and other people of color, people with disabilities, people in rural areas, young people, undocumented people, and those having difficulty making ends meet.

“COLOR is the only multi-entity Reproductive Justice organization in Colorado. I say that because we know that the attempted and coerced control of our bodies and personal decisions is not new,” said Dusti Gurule, President and CEO of COLOR. “For centuries our families have and continue to be left out of the decision-making process over their own reproductive decisions. Young people and people without documentation continue to face barriers, right here in Colorado. And that’s why RHEA is our new floor.”

“Now that the Reproductive Health Equity Act is law in Colorado, we have ensured that our fundamental freedom to access abortion is up to us. We will continue to protect our fundamental right to abortion because we deserve to define our own future,” said COLOR’s Civic Engagement Coordinator, Jennifer Arreola.

Latinas are leading the charge for reproductive justice in Colorado. We protected our right to abortion with the Reproductive Health Equity Act (RHEA), and now that the Supreme Court seems to be poised to clear the way for bans across the country – we’ll continue to lead in building a future where reproductive healthcare is safe, accessible, and without shame.
