ABORTION RIGHTS SEE INCREASED SUPPORT IN COLORADO’S LARGEST NONPARTISAN SURVEY OF LATINO VOTERS
DENVER, CO – For the second year in a row, the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR), COLOR Action Fund, alongside our partners at Voces Unidas de las Montañas and Voces Unidas Action Fund, are proud to present the Colorado Latino Policy Agenda (CLPA). As in 2021, Protégete of Conservation Colorado was invited as a partner in the report we’re releasing today. This nonpartisan report provides insight for elected officials, community leaders, media, and others interested in the demographic makeup and views of Latinos in Colorado on pressing policy, political, and other relevant issues in the state.
Intended for use by lawmakers and other officials in the year ahead, the 2022 CLPA was informed by a statewide poll of 1,504 Latino registered voters conducted online and via phone from July 5 to August 5. The poll is intended to provide a representative, nonpartisan snapshot of views of Latino voters on both national and local issues, offering a valuable perspective on the state of Latinos in Colorado.
Among the key findings this year:
- Nearly two-thirds (61%) of respondents said that they are more likely to vote for a candidate who supports the expansion of abortion and reproductive health access
- Over half of respondents (58%) said that the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade makes it more likely that they will vote in the November midterm elections.
- There was high support (83%) for expanding access to health insurance for all Colorado residents, including undocumented residents; ensuring state residents have access to safe abortion and reproductive health (68%).
“Protecting and expanding our access to the full range of reproductive healthcare, including abortion care, is crucial for democracy,” said Dusti Gurule, President and CEO of the Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights (COLOR). “Latinos are a powerful force in the health and wellbeing of our democracy, just as we are a force behind protecting abortion access. This poll shows us what we’ve known for a long time — that our community values the freedom to decide and determine our own futures.”
COLOR continues to be the only Latina-led, Latino/-serving reproductive justice organization in the state of Colorado. And for nearly twenty-five years, we’ve ensured that the voice of our community is at the center of our state’s future.
